Importance of the facing direction of your house

It is very important to be able to determine the facing direction of your house correctly! If you are able to select a good house, you can definitely perform better in your career, relationships and family life.
The facing direction also plays an essential role in helping you to determine the favorable colours for your house and the arrangement of furniture also varies according to the facing direction of your house. However, these two factors must also depend on one's individual life.
Besides the above mentioned, the date chosen to move into the house is also depends on the facing direction. But, we do not have to consider one's individual life for this.
Auspicious directions in Period 8

Period 8 is from year 2004 to 2023, lasting a total of twenty years. During this period, there are certain directions that are considered more auspicious directions. These directions are ranked as follows:
1st: Facing South or North
2nd: Facing Northeast or Southwest
3rd: Facing Southeast or Northwest
Although these are deemed the auspicious directions in Period 8, one's individual life must be taken into consideration as well, so as to select a house with the most suitable direction.
TIPS: South is the most auspicious direction in Period 9 (year 2024 - 2043). During this particular period, the East and West-facing houses are not recommended.
How to determine the facing direction of your house?
Most people think that the main door will always be determined as the facing direction but it is not always the case. Note that, the method to determine the facing direction is different for landed properties and housings such as HDB flats and condominiums.
First, we will explain the method to determine the direction. Thereafter, we will give some examples to better illustrate the method. You can try to apply it to your own house or keep it as references for future house purchases.
For Landed House
For landed properties such as terrace house, the main door and the house will usually face the same direction. In this case, the direction that the main door faces will be selected as the facing direction of the house. (Refer to floor plan A) However, for properties such as bungalows, situations where the main gate and the main door face different directions might occur. In this case, we will have to consider the surrounding environment before we can determine the most appropriate facing direction.
TIP for property purchase: For landed properties, the exterior environment (surrounding of the house) plays an important role. It is advisable for the main door to avoid facing clashes such as lampposts, T-junction and cross-junction.
For Condominium & HDB
For housings such as HDB flat and condominium, we will have to find the direction that is able to attract the most amount of
qi (energy) from the environment outside the house. In order to achieve this, we will usually select the "biggest opening" in the living room, which will normally be the window. The facing direction will be the direction that the big window faces.
If the big window in your house does not face the same direction as your main door, we will take the facing direction as the direction that the window faces. (Refer to floor plan B) However, if the main door and the big window in your house run in a straight line, the facing direction will be the direction that the main door faces. (Refer to floor plan C)
TIP for property purchase: Bring along a compass to check the sitting and facing direction. Avoid houses that are near MRT tracks, hospitals or face the corner of a building.
How to choose a good compass?
Normally, a feng shui Master will use a Luo Pan to take measurements and readings during a feng shui audit. However, it is also fine for laymen to use a normal compass to determine the house direction while choosing a house.
